Honeymoon to Antigua

After a few months of settling into this new life with my hubby, I am so excited to finally share about the amazing experiences we had on our Honeymoon trip to Antigua with you as the official Mr. and Mrs.!  When you picture a tropical honeymoon getaway in your mind, you probably are imagining perfect weather, bright-blue turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, and sun-kissed tans - well let me tell you, Antigua delivered all of this and more, giving us the BEST week of our lives with everything I could have ever imagined!

We relaxed in honeymoon bliss and perfection for over ten days at the all-inclusive, luxurious Galley Bay Resort and Spa and Sandals Grande Antigua. Each of them were beyond anything we could have dreamed of in a luxurious, relaxing, resort - from the exquisite food and cool island drinks, to breath-taking views and spacious rooms...everything was a dream!

Now, about our stay - we began this wonderful adventure by catching a flight first thing in the morning after our wedding. With boarding passes to Antigua in hand and just a few hours of travel in front of us, we headed out and arrived that afternoon to the first destination of the trip - Galley Bay Resort and Spa.

Talk about natural beauty - the vibrant skies and tropical landscape alone took our breath away.  We were greeted by the most welcoming staff with cool towels and sparking champagne - all to refresh us from our long trip to paradise! We rode in across the island and along the bay through a long line of tall palm trees, and it then opened up into a gorgeous resort right on the edge of the glittering ocean, topped with a picturesque sail boat floating just offshore.

While waiting for concierge to drop off our luggage, we strolled around our little slice of the island to get a quick peek and enjoy some sun, then grabbed a quick bite for lunch and headed to our room for a long-overdue nap (weddings can really wear you out!). As we walked into our room, I imagined something really nice - but, I was BLOWN away by the fabulous luxury that is the Gauguin Suite!  Along with a waterfall shower and matching robes in our island-themed room, we had a private plunge pool tucked away in a delightful courtyard setting with sun loungers for total relaxation. Plus, the high ceilings, spacious bedroom, full kitchen, and fresh fruit were icing on the cake! I couldn't believe this was our home away from home for a week, so help settle in, we hopped into our warm robes and enjoyed snacks and drinks as the Edwards!

As you would expect when in paradise, we had 4-course, 5-star meals sun up to sun down, sipped on unlimited drinks, snorkeled with the marine life, and jumped on jet-skis, boats, and kayaks to explore the the various coves around our peninsula. (Fun fact: Our resort was next-door neighbors with Giorgio Armani's home, which I must say was incredible.)
Some of our favorite things during our stay at Galley Bay included relaxing by the waterfall pool, snorkeling around the bay, and candlelight dinners each night on the beach!

We were sad to pack up our bags to leave the first resort but we hailed a cab and headed through the city to our next stop, Sandals Grande Antigua.

As we concluded our first stay, we were escorted via a personal golf cart to the check-out, only to be greeted again with cool towels and champagne as we prepared to head to our next honeymoon oasis. After a short drive and stop-off in the downtown area of St. John's, we arrived and were welcomed into our first Sandals resort, and let me tell you...it was stunning! Everything was bigger and better - from the lobby, to the chandeliers, to the pools, and more! The resort had unlimited experiences, which included 11 restaurants, 5 swimming pools, land sports, evening entertainment, scuba diving, and more! We spent another week here enjoying each other as husband and wife!

Our room was a beach front suite with all the bells and whistles! The bathroom alone was incredible!!
We also enjoyed hanging out with friends playing pool volleyball, going out to incredible dinners and laughing at our karaoke skills!

As we think back on this amazing adventure, we were so happy that we chose to stay at two different resorts...it made our honeymoon feel like an endless getaway, and it allowed us to have different experiences and meet many new friends!  After getting the full experience at both resorts, we both agree that we liked Galley Bay more than Sandals and would absolutely recommend booking a room at the resort if you're considering a trip to Antigua. Galley Bay offered a more luxurious and personalized experience, whereas Sandals was much busier, loud, and the food paled in comparison to Galley Bay.

In summary, our honeymoon was everything we could have ever dreamed of, and we would go back to Antigua in a heartbeat!  It was hands-down the most beautiful place I have ever been, and I know I am the luckiest wife in the world. A big thank you to my husband for spoiling us to the perfect, most romantic honeymoon!

XOXO, Azlinn
